Major Fire Breaks Out on Day 7 of Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj

Rajput AI

A devastating fire engulfed the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj on Sunday, the seventh day of the religious gathering. According to preliminary reports, the blaze originated in a tent during food preparation, subsequently spreading to neighboring tents. The intensity of the fire caused several gas cylinders stored in the tents to explode in rapid succession, exacerbating the situation. As of now, the fire has reportedly consumed over 50 tents.

The fire broke out on the road adjacent to the Akhara area, near the iron bridge. Firefighting teams swiftly arrived at the scene, and the area was immediately cordoned off to prevent further casualties or incidents.

While no loss of life has been reported so far, strong winds in the area have raised concerns about the fire spreading further. The situation is being closely monitored. Notably, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited Prayagraj earlier in the day to survey the Kumbh Mela grounds via helicopter. The fire erupted shortly after his inspection.

State-of-the-Art Firefighting Operations Deployed

In an effort to ensure safety at the Maha Kumbh, cutting-edge firefighting mechanisms have been deployed across the Mela grounds. Four Advanced Articulating Water Towers (AWTs), equipped with thermal and video imaging systems, are stationed strategically. These towers are specifically designed to combat fires in high-rise or large-scale tent setups and can extinguish flames up to a height of 35 meters.

Additionally, over 350 fire brigades and more than 2,000 trained personnel have been assigned to manage fire safety across the expansive festival grounds. There are 50 fire control centers and 20 fire response posts in operation to swiftly handle emergencies. Fire protection equipment, including extinguishers and smoke alarms, has also been installed in Akharas and tent accommodations to mitigate risks.

Safety Measures for Attendees

To ensure the safety of the millions of pilgrims and visitors attending the Maha Kumbh, authorities have implemented rigorous safety protocols:

  • Designated Emergency Hotlines: Visitors are urged to contact Dial 112 or the dedicated fire emergency line 101 for immediate assistance in case of emergencies.
  • Fire Safety Awareness: Regular safety drills and awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate attendees on fire hazards and evacuation procedures.
  • On-Site Medical Aid: Several emergency medical teams are deployed across the grounds to provide first aid and medical support.
  • Restricted Cooking Areas: Cooking in unauthorized zones is strictly prohibited, and designated cooking areas are monitored to ensure compliance with safety norms.

Enhanced Precautionary Measures

In light of the recent incident, authorities are reviewing safety protocols and reinforcing fire prevention strategies. The focus remains on creating a secure environment for all attendees. Temporary evacuation shelters and rapid-response teams are on standby to address unforeseen emergencies.

Stay Alert, Stay Safe

Visitors are advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or safety concerns to the nearest fire control post. Local authorities have assured the public that every possible measure is being taken to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of all participants at this spiritual gathering.

For updates and assistance, follow official channels and adhere to the safety instructions issued by the authorities. The Prayagraj Maha Kumbh remains a symbol of faith and unity, and collective responsibility will help uphold its sanctity.
